Insulation

The standard specified insulation installed in modular homes included fiberglass batts for sidewalls. For ceilings, some factories will install fiberglass batts and others use blown in cellulose.

When you home is costed out at the factory it is the responsibility for your builder to insure that he informs the factory of the required levels of insulation to be installed in the walls, ceilings and floors. Although most modular home companies have a standard specified R-Value, the price of your home will vary due to code requirements.

Insulation Recommendations

Adding as much insulation to your modular home as you can possible afford is highly recommended. In addition to increasing the R-Value of your walls, ceilings and floors, you should have your home air sealed as well. By adding insulation and air sealing your prefab, your energy bills to heat and cool your home will be lower over the life span of ownership. In addition you new home will require a smaller and less expensive heating and cooling system which will keep the price of your modular home lower at time of construction.
