Lighting

Lighting your new modular home requires you to make a decision on the types of light bulb you will purchase. Lighting your home consumes approximately ten percent of your home's energy consumption according to the Department of Energy. For bright lites you can select compact fluorescent lights, LED or halogen bulbs.

Compact Fluorescent Lights - CFLs are in the process of waning in popularity due to the time required for them to heat up and produce the desired lighting in your home. CFLs will cut your lighting bill by 80% over the once popular incandescent bulbs. Installing CFLs where you decide to use dimmers is hardly advisable because you will change the bulbs after being upset by their poor performance.

LEDs- This lighting system is becoming more popular as the price has been dropping quickly with increased demand. LEDs use a fraction of the energy of CFLs, produce desired levels of lighting and can be dimmed.

Halogens - Halogen bulbs produce super bright lighting and suck a ton of energy at the same time. Halogens are hardly energy efficient as a lighting source alone, however if they are used to partially heat your modular home and provide light they are an excellent choice. If your modular home is constructed with additional insulation and air sealed well, halogen lights can be used to remove the chill from you home in the fall and in the spring without touching your home's heating thermostat. Halogens can also be used for partial spot heating in a home.
