Your modular home's kitchen will be the most used space in the house. From cooking to entertaining kitchens are now the hot spot in most homes. If you look at many standard modular home floor plans you will find many of the plans are not at all functional let alone attractive. To design a functional and attractive kitchen for your home you should take the following elements into consideration: basic kitchen layout and design; storage areas; food preparation surfaces; sinks; small and large appliances; recycling centers and cabinet upgrades.
The first element to designing a kitchen is to understand how your kitchen will be used. Take time to identify what you like about your present kitchen and kitchens in past homes. This will allow you to create a list of items required for your new home.
Basic Kitchen Design
Food Preparation Space
When you are designing your floor plan you will need to take into consideration how much space you require to prepare food. If you are a cook like my mother used to be you will only need three feet of space. She was a food warmer upper cook. She would open cans and drop the contents in a pan and heat them up, fry some meat and dinner would be cooked. Today, people have evolved into being master cooks using fresh vegetable, herbs and spices. Cooking has become a functional hobby. Identifying how much counter top space you require is very important in kitchen design.
Other Than Cooking Space
Kitchens have become more than a space to cook food. Todays modular home kitchens include areas to entertain, maintain the bills with a home control center and areas to sit and relax. Often kitchens are connected to an away room space allowing for busy families to have some time together.
Storage
Every kitchen requires a pantry to store food and small appliances. Many modular home floor plans have no space no pantry or a space for a free standing pantry. If your kitchen plan does not have space for a free standing pantry, you could opt for a tall cabinet pantry to store your foods.
Kitchen Paths and Trails
It is very important to design your kitchen so people can pass through the kitchen easily when more than one person is in the kitchen. An example of a crappy kitchen design for a busy family would be a galley kitchen.
