Structural Engineering
If you are designing a custom modular home, you might have to pay additional engineering fees so that the home can meet building codes pertaining to local building codes and requirements. Another reason you might have to have structural engineering completed with your home is that your home's design falls outside of the manufacture's system package.
Additional structural engineering is rarely required with modular homes, however at times it is required. Often homes with complicated roof systems in areas where heavy snow and wind loads need to be calculated will require additional fees.
The best way to eliminate expensive structural engineering fees that increase the price of a modular home is to have your builder explain how you roof system can be modified to be constructed within the building system of the manufacturer.
